From Underutilized to Ultimate: Crafting a Multi-Zone Basement Retreat

When building new homes, clients often consider the basement an afterthought, left unfinished or under furnished. At this project, Authentic Interiors worked with the client to determine how they could maximize use of their basement by creating a glamourous, stylish and highly functional space to encourage activity by all family members.

A large window provided a natural focal point to anchor an upholstered banquette underneath. A reflective black glass table with a sculpted base is sleek and stylish, yet easily cleanable. It instantly created a fun, comfortable spot for games, snacks, drinks and even homework or crafts.

The client had a collection of brightly colored, graphic Pearl Jam prints to incorporate, so Authentic Interiors planned a gallery wall based around one of them and placed a second in the bar area. New brass lighting provided an instant update and shines against the darker paint color that brings together the existing and new furniture, including a 90” media console with leather pulls.

Updates to the bar area included lowering the bar top to counter height to maximize the view and replacing it with a gorgeous Q quartz called Lumataj. A custom iron shelf mounted on a fun, patterned backsplash tile enlivens the space and provides display space for whiskey. We enjoyed working to pull together all the materials, fixtures and furnishings for three distinct spaces within one open concept basement.
