Purpose-Driven Refresh for Lake Loving Family
A busy couple struggled to pull together their Glen Ellyn Tudor home full of oak trim and outdated lighting. In fact, they admitted some furnishings dated to the husband’s bachelor days!
More details…
First, I set out to discover how they wanted to use and feel in their first-floor space. I learned they loved the peacefulness of lake life, fishing and outdoors. And they wanted to be able to proudly host larger groups.
In terms of layout, a new, bigger fish tank became a focal point feature. The addition of two swivel chairs within an intentionally- arranged conversation area fills the large living room proportionately. A dark blue wall paint pares down the strength of the oak trim and patterned drapery hangs high on two symmetrical windows. A larger area rug, relaxing artwork and thoughtful decor brings together the color palette.
In the dining room, natural wood furniture adds warmth, and the gentle curves of the graceful chairs are repeated in the sophisticated metal wall mirror and sweeping arms of the chandelier and wall sconces. A seat cushion custom upholstered in performance fabric stands up to two dogs, two boys and overflow guests. And a tall, woven cabinet by the front door stylishly hides kids’ shoes and sports equipment.
Finally, guests are treated to a powder room with corner cabinet revitalized in pale blue and white quartz and a fun feminine wallpaper that reflects the outdoor vibe and watery blues of the rest of the home. Now the clients welcome friends and family in a space that reflects their style and encourages relaxation and hanging out.
