From New Kitchen to Fabulous First Floor

What started as a kitchen renovation in Indian Head Park, Illinois, quickly became an entire first floor design project for Authentic Interiors.

The homeowners knew they wanted to open a wall between the kitchen and family room, but I helped walk them through the exact details of it – from countertop materials, stopping and starting of backsplash tile and trim, seating at the new peninsula, and coordinating lighting between the adjacent rooms.

I encouraged them to look closely at the new sightlines created in the new open floor plan. The kitchen would open to the family room fireplace, which was simply out of proportion for the room. The clients agreed that the project should include a fireplace renovation to reflect the style of the new kitchen – transitional, clean lines, with warm colors and textures.

Authentic Interiors provided fresh ideas and inspiration, detailed dimensioned drawings, and material samples so we could get the contractor on board and running with this additional work.

The final results of the first-floor project are stunning. Through thoughtful planning and coordination of details, the clients gained a seamless design with standout features, such as a chevron detail on the kitchen island, a full-height stone fireplace with a simple wood mantel, a custom-painted banister, and patterned carpet runner, personalized styling with new and vintage pieces and custom window treatments.

Nothing is better than hearing a client say, “I can’t believe this is my home!”
