Bourbon Trail Inspired Sitting Room

The homeowners of this Elmhurst home changed the use of their front room multiple times as their needs shifted and their boys grew older. They reached a point where they wanted a grown-up sitting room where they could relax at night and enjoy a cocktail or two. They shared with Authentic Interiors the style of furnishings they saw on a visit to Kentucky’s Bourbon Trail and that became the inspiration for the room.

Must-haves included deep leather club chairs with interesting details, dark walls, long draperies, a cowhide rug and of course a bar cart. Authentic Interiors presented three rustic sitting room design plans. The homeowners first agreed the framed highland cow photo, and now he’s the star of the room, along with Frankie the Stag, a 47” high bronzed deer donning glasses and a pipe. He completes a gallery wall of treasured vacation photos and humorous bourbon prints.

The room was already blessed with beautiful millwork and a coffered ceiling but adding Benjamin Moore’s Iron Mountain and custom pleated herringbone draperies from The Shade Store enhanced it more and created a more loungey feel for relaxing at night.
